Accessible Entrepreneurs – Adaptive Business Coaching

The Challenge
The Accessible Entrepreneurs program required a consultant who could provide more than just technical advice. The organization sought a service provider who combined lived experience with professional expertise in coaching, mentorship, and digital strategy. The objective was to support a diverse group of business owners, many of whom were navigating neurodiversity or physical disabilities, in building professional digital presences and sustainable internal workflows.
The Action
I developed a holistic coaching curriculum grounded in human-centred design and global accessibility standards to meet the unique needs of each participant.
Diagnostic Intake & Scoping: Conducted initial consultations to align participant goals with measurable outcomes, followed by the creation of formal scopes of work for program approval.
Bespoke Digital Development: Built custom, accessible websites on researched platforms that participants could realistically manage long-term.
Neurodivergent-Friendly Workflows: Designed specific productivity strategies and business systems for entrepreneurs with ADHD, autism, or cognitive differences due to injury.
SME Leadership: Served as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the IDEA Hub online forum, moderating discussions on business operations and marketing.
Accessible Office Hours: Hosted bi-monthly virtual office hours to provide a low-barrier space for participants to troubleshoot technical hurdles and discuss business strategy in real-time.
The Result
The program remains active, providing a critical support structure for inclusive business ownership in BC.
Operational Competency: Participants exit their sessions with a fully functional digital presence and the technical literacy to maintain it.
Community Engagement: Established the IDEA Hub as a reliable resource for real-time problem solving, increasing the overall value of the program’s digital ecosystem.
Confidence & Retention: By tailoring workflows to specific cognitive needs, participants reported higher confidence in managing the day-to-day administrative burdens of entrepreneurship.
Insight 1: Beyond WCAG Compliance
While technical web accessibility is essential, true accessibility in entrepreneurship includes how information is delivered. By adapting my coaching style to my clients' unique needs, I ensured that business concepts were absorbed rather than just heard.
Insight 2: The Importance of a Low-Barrier SME
Standard business coaching often feels rigid. By hosting twice-monthly open-door office hours, I created a judgment-free environment where participants felt comfortable asking simple questions that might otherwise prevent them from moving forward with their projects.
Insight 3: The Collaborative Scope
Success in this program starts with the participant helping define the scope. By involving them in the initial research and platform selection, the final digital product becomes a tool they truly own, rather than a system they are afraid to break.
